G’day, eh — I’m Steve!
I’m Steve Wright, a gay, tech-minded, video game enthusiast, hockey player and fan, journalist, and communications expert.
I was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, and have called Melbourne, Victoria, Australia my home for more than twenty-five years.
I started my first website, Stevivor.com, back in 2000 ahead of what was meant to be a three-month working holiday in Australia. I eventually decided to emigrate, and what started as a travel blog soon became the country’s leading independent video games outlet. ‘Stevivor’ is a combination of ‘Steve’ and ‘Survivor’, which made more sense back in 2001 when Jeff Probst was up in Queensland.
I’ve since gone on to design websites for a variety of friends and clients, including Nicholes Family Lawyers, the Braves Ice Hockey Club, Murray Waldren Consulting, and through my day job for businesses including COTA Victoria and Seniors Rights Victoria.
I’ve put my writing to good use for a variety of publications, hence this site. You can look through a small sample from a career’s worth of writing by the type of article written, or the publication it first appeared in. I’ll also use this site to create new pieces when the mood strikes.
I also adore Star Trek, helping to cover video games about the long-running franchise on TrekMovie.com.
I’m married to Matt, have cat children in Wally and Quinn, and try to keep fit through running.
